A soft, stubborn tummy is one of the most common reasons patients come to see us. Many are already eating well and exercising, but the lower belly still will not flatten. After pregnancy or weight loss, the skin there can also feel looser than before. In Malay, many patients simply call it lemak perut that will not go away.

At Dr Jane Clinic in Tropicana Avenue, Petaling Jaya, we treat tummy fat with two main options: Endolift and Onda Coolwaves. They work very differently, so this guide explains which one tends to suit which kind of tummy.

First, what kind of tummy do you have?

Before choosing a treatment, our doctors look at three things:

  • How much fat there is. A small pinchable pocket below the belly button is different from fullness across the whole abdomen and flanks.

  • How loose the skin is. If the skin has lost firmness, removing fat alone can leave the area looking softer. Tightening matters as much as fat reduction.

  • How much downtime you can take. Some patients can rest for a few days; others need to be back at work the same day.

The answers usually point clearly to one treatment, or to a combination of both.

Endolift for the tummy

Endolift uses an ultra-thin laser fibre, finer than a hair, placed just under the skin through tiny entry points under local anaesthetic. The laser melts small fat deposits and, at the same time, heats the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and tighten it.

  • Best for: a lower tummy pouch, especially after pregnancy, where there is a moderate pocket of fat and the skin has started to loosen.

  • Sessions: many patients need only one session.

  • Downtime: expect swelling and some bruising for several days.

  • Results: the area looks flatter as the swelling settles, and tightening continues to develop over the following 3 to 6 months as new collagen forms.

Endolift is also used on bra fat, the arms and the thighs, so it can be planned together with other areas that bother you. Dr Jane has trained with international Endolift experts, including attending the World Endolift Experts Summit in Italy.

Onda Coolwaves for the tummy

Onda Coolwaves is completely non-invasive. It uses targeted microwave energy to heat and break down fat cells while firming the tissue. There are no needles, no incisions and no downtime.

  • Best for: larger areas such as the whole abdomen and the flanks (love handles), and patients who also want smoother, firmer skin or less cellulite.

  • Sessions: a course of sessions, with results building gradually.

  • Downtime: none. Most patients return to their normal day straight away.

  • Results: a gradual reduction in fullness and firmer-looking skin over the course of treatment.

Endolift or Onda: a quick guide

  • Lower tummy pouch with loose skin after pregnancy: Endolift

  • Fullness across the whole abdomen and flanks: Onda Coolwaves

  • Need zero downtime: Onda Coolwaves

  • Want a result from a single session: Endolift

  • Both fat and loose skin over a wider area: often a combination, with Onda for the larger area and Endolift for the loosest spot

Tummy contouring is not weight loss

Both treatments reshape a specific area. They work best for people who are close to their goal weight but have a tummy that will not shift. If you have more weight to lose overall, a doctor-supervised plan such as Mounjaro weight loss is usually the better first step, with contouring afterwards to refine the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is Endolift on the tummy painful?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so most patients feel pressure and warmth rather than pain. Some tenderness afterwards is normal.

Does Onda hurt?

Onda is non-invasive. Most patients describe a warm sensation during treatment and carry on with their day afterwards.

Are the results permanent?

Fat cells that are destroyed do not come back. The remaining fat cells can still grow if you gain weight, so keeping a stable weight helps you keep your results.

Can I do Endolift and Onda together?

Yes. Many patients combine them. Your doctor will plan which areas to treat with each and the order and timing.

Get your tummy assessed

The right treatment depends on your fat, your skin and your schedule, and that is best judged in person. At Dr Jane Clinic in Tropicana Avenue, Petaling Jaya, our doctors assess the area before recommending a plan, so you only do the treatment that suits your body.
