Cellulite Treatment in Malaysia: What Works, What Doesn't, and What to Expect
Cellulite is one of the most common body concerns we see, and one of the most misunderstood. Many patients are surprised to learn that it is not a sign of being unfit or overweight. Most adult women have some cellulite, including athletes and naturally slim women.
This guide explains what causes cellulite, which popular fixes do not work, and how medical treatments can improve it.
What causes cellulite?
Under your skin, fat sits in compartments separated by thin bands of connective tissue. In cellulite, these bands pull the skin down while the fat underneath pushes up, creating the familiar dimpled, orange-peel texture. It is far more common in women than men because of how these bands are arranged in female skin.
Several factors make cellulite more visible:
Genetics and hormones
Thinner or looser skin, which shows the dimpling more
Weight gain, which increases the upward push of fat
Reduced circulation in the area
Why creams and massage don't fix it
Firming creams, scrubs and massage tools may make skin feel smoother or reduce puffiness for a few hours, but they cannot release the connective tissue bands that cause the dimples. That is why results from these products tend to disappear quickly.
Medical treatments that do help
At Dr Jane Clinic, we use two energy-based treatments for cellulite, either on their own or together.
Z Wave Pro shockwave
Z Wave Pro delivers radial pressure waves into the treated area. These help loosen the fibrous bands, improve circulation and stimulate collagen, which together smooth the dimpled surface. It is quick, non-invasive and has no downtime. It is commonly used on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and upper arms.
Onda Coolwaves
Onda Coolwaves uses targeted microwave energy to reduce the fat that pushes up against the skin and to remodel and firm the tissue. It is a good option when cellulite comes with stubborn fat or skin laxity in the same area.
Combining treatments
Because cellulite involves fat, connective tissue and skin quality together, combining shockwave with Onda often gives a more noticeable result than either alone. If the skin in the area is also loose, our article on fat freezing alternatives explains how Endolift can tighten small areas such as the thighs.
How many sessions will I need?
Cellulite treatment is done as a course of sessions rather than a one-off. The number depends on how visible your cellulite is and which areas are treated. Your doctor will recommend a plan at your consultation, and occasional maintenance sessions help keep the results.
What results are realistic?
Treatment can make cellulite noticeably smoother and less visible, especially in normal lighting. It is very unlikely to remove every dimple permanently, so be wary of claims that promise this. Results last longer if you keep a stable weight and stay active.
What you can do at home
Keep your weight stable, as fluctuations make cellulite more visible
Strength training builds muscle underneath and can improve the look of the area
Stay hydrated and avoid smoking, which affects skin quality
If you also have stretch marks, these respond to different treatments; see our stretch marks guide
Frequently asked questions
Does losing weight get rid of cellulite?
It can make cellulite less visible, but it rarely removes it because the connective tissue bands are still there. Some people even notice more dimpling after weight loss if the skin loosens.
Is cellulite treatment painful?
Shockwave and Onda are non-invasive. Most patients describe a tapping or warm sensation and return to normal activities straight away.
Can men have cellulite treatment?
Yes, although cellulite is less common in men, the same treatments can be used.
